The Oratory of Santa Maria Assunta or Disciplinanti, also referred to as the Church of the Confraternity of the Assumption, is home to a sculptural work called Madonna of the Chains, reminiscent of the times when the barbarians would invade the land and chain the locals of Riomaggiore in order to determine them to pay ransom. Next to this wooden statue there is also a triptych which embellishes the altar.
The Oratory of Santa Maria Assunta is one of the two oratories in Riomaggiore, the second referring to the Oratory (or Chapel) of Saint Rocco.
