Located approximately 70 kilometers from Monterosso, Genoa is one of the main attractions in the surroundings of Cinque Terre. Even if the first historical reference to the city dates back to the 6th century BC, even if Genoa was the site of certain major political historical events and decisions, Genoa is truly a city that can be admired only by the modern tourist or, simply put, by the modern man.
There is a plethora of palaces dating back to different ages (such as the Palace of the Doges, where Christopher Columbus was born) and churches (such as the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata del Vastato, which is built in two architectural styles) to be visited in Genoa. The green zone in Genoa will make even this modern man believe that he hasn’t left the countryside of Cinque Terre, since the parks in Genoa fill more than 130 thousand square kilometers. There are also promenades which can, if followed, lead tourists to the most valuable sights of the city, including the ancient walls and fortresses.
Therefore, it would be nothing but a loss for people who spend their vacation in Cinque Terre to overlook the prospect of a trip to Genoa.
Trains are the most convenient means of getting from Cinque Terre to Genoa, first of all because all the five villages have train stations, and secondly, because Cinque Terre is anyway located in the railway line between Genoa and La Spezia. In order to learn about the trains which head for Genoa, exchange trains, ticket prices, departures and arrivals, visit Trenitalia.
The A12 Motorway (Autostrada Azzura) is, in this case also, the thoroughfare to be taken by tourists who want to get from Cinque Terre to Genoa. Tourists must head north and then take the Corso Europa exit, which leads them directly to Genoa.
Genoa is also reachable by boat. There is a private company which makes trips from Cinque Terre to Genoa, namely, Trasporti Marittimi Turistici Golfo Paradiso, and tourists can rely on their services, in case boat rental is not something they can expect to take into account.
